AI legal technology startup Ivo has successfully raised US$55 million in a Series B funding round spearheaded by Blackbird. This round follows a period of significant growth for Ivo, marked by an expansion in both customer base and revenue for its contract intelligence software. The funding round also saw participation from notable investors such as Costanoa Ventures, Uncork Capital, Fika Ventures, GD1, and Icehouse Ventures.

Ivo’s remarkable growth is highlighted by a 500% increase in annual recurring revenue over the past year and a 134% expansion in its customer base. Since its previous funding round, Ivo has seen a 250% increase in adoption among Fortune 500 companies and a fivefold increase in its valuation within nine months.

Originally founded in New Zealand and established in Sydney, Ivo has since relocated its headquarters to San Francisco and is now looking to expand its operations into the UK.

Contract Intelligence Focus

Ivo’s software is specifically designed for in-house legal and contracting teams, focusing on contract review and contract library intelligence. The company emphasizes the complexity of operational and commercial details within contracts, which organizations often find challenging to extract at scale.

The platform features two core components:

– Ivo Review: Aims to streamline and automate contract review workflows.
– Ivo Intelligence: Designed to search across a company’s entire library of agreements to identify key data points and hidden connections.

Customers have reported saving up to 75% of the time typically required for manual contract reviews. Ivo’s product standardizes legal positions through playbooks developed and implemented by lawyers, enhancing consistency across large, distributed teams.

The company’s client list includes major names such as IBM, Uber, Canva, Shopify, Pinterest, Quora, BILL.com, and Reddit, with Atlassian and CDW also utilizing its services.

Customer Uptake and Future Plans

With the new capital, Ivo intends to further product development and scale its services across existing and new clients. The company plans to deepen collaborations with the “hundreds of organizations” already using its platform. CEO and Co-founder Min-Kyu Jung highlighted the company’s commitment to improving contract workflows and extracting insights from agreements.

“Our goal has always been to make interacting with contracts fast, accurate, and enjoyable,” said Jung. “Every key relationship in a business is defined by an agreement, yet most organizations struggle to extract the insights inside them. Our focus is to give in-house teams a trustworthy solution that helps them work faster and gives them visibility into their contracts that was previously impossible.”

Uber, one of Ivo’s customers, has praised the software’s intuitive use, accuracy, multilingual capabilities, and confidentiality standards. Kate Gardner from Uber explained, “Uber selected Ivo because it was intuitive to use, demonstrated a high level of accuracy, could work in multiple languages, and met its confidentiality requirements. Furthermore, the Ivo team was highly responsive to Uber’s needs.”

CDW also expressed satisfaction with Ivo’s tools, referencing both the contract review and intelligence products. “CDW values its partnership with Ivo, whose commitment to advancing legal technology aligns with our strategic priorities. Ivo’s Contract Review Tool and Intelligence Tool streamline contract analysis and enhance decision-making through AI-driven insights. Our collaboration continues to support the integration of AI processes into our legal workflows,” said Michel.

Investor Perspective

Blackbird, leading the funding, recognizes the demand for tools that align with existing workflows of in-house legal teams. James Palmer from Blackbird noted the product’s accuracy and customer traction as key investment drivers.

“In-house legal teams demand products that are deeply accurate and aligned to how they work. The most sophisticated teams are incredibly selective about the tools they trust,” said Palmer. “Ivo’s traction with some of the world’s best companies shows it consistently exceeds that bar. With exceptional product execution and an uncompromising quality bar, we believe Ivo is defining and leading the category.”

Ivo plans to continue enhancing its platform, focusing on faster contract reviews and broader visibility across contract libraries, as it expands into new markets, including the UK.
